Unconcious Smokers

A lot of environmental problems exist around the world. We damage our own land without caring about it until we start suffering the consequences. I believe that one of the biggest problems in our campus is the people who throw the filters of their cigarettes on the floor. The filters were created in the 50´s "to avoid" getting cancer from the tobacco. People who smoke tend to throw it on the floor; the problem is that about 50% of the garbage on the streets is cigarettes filters. On 2002 about 5.6 billion of cigarettes were consumed around the world and scientists expect that in the year 2025 9 trillion of cigarettes will be consumed. This is a big problem because the filter end in the rivers or oceans causing that some animals eats them and for a filter it takes about 25 years to biodegrade. We have to teach the smokers to throw the filters in the garbage and if you don’t have a place to throw in the moment you need to keep it until you find a place to put it. It is all about education and being ethical.
